For the Studio Exploration assignment in my AVT 595 class, I decided to explore Ink Pens. I have used ink pens since I was in middle school, so I wanted to explore ink pens for my future students.
What I Used:
Micron Ink Pens (set of 6) - $10.95
Strathmore Drawing Paper (9x12) - $7.29

Let's Get Started!
Stroke Weight
The ink pen set comes with 6 different sizes of tips so, I decided to test the stroke weight of each of the ink pens first from the lowest to highest stroke weight; 005, 02, 03, 05, 08, Brush

I really like how consistent the lines are and also how when you change the direction you are holding the pen, the stroke weight changes, which shows you can get different weights from just one pen.
Mark Making
Next I decided to see how the pen works with different mark making: curved lines, hatching, cross hatching, and drawing shapes. I repeated the same methods for all 6 pens in a chart.

I love how smooth and buildable the marks were for all of the pens but I am not a big fan of the brush pen. I have tried other brush pens and the Micron brush pen is not as great because it is very inconsistent when it comes to how much ink is on the paper. There were a lot of grey patches even when applied the same pressure throughout.
Final Drawing
I decided to draw mushrooms and used all 6 of the pens to create texture. I also used the brush pen and 08 pen together to see how the pen fills in the white paper.

Overall, I loved working with the pens as they are very easy to use and have a lot of use.
